glen, on the 1996 town car climate control head, the codes came up 115,025,125. i believe that someone changed the location of some of the wires in the 2 connection junctions that plugs into the back of the control. do you have acess to a schematic so i can check the color coding to see if the wires are located properly. since i,ve owned the car it hasn't worked properly. typically, if you hit the control on the steering wheel 3 times it will turn on(up) and 3 times down will turn off , but no variable speed

OK those codes are not related to your problem, the 025 is an Intermittent fault in blend door calibration. That would be temp related. The other 2 are communication errors with the pcm coolant & speed sensors. I would not worry about them at this point, rerun the self test and push defrost after it displays the codes and this should clear them.

If you have a DVOM you can do the pinpoint test for this concern. Ff you want to gamble, I would replace the blower controller, its located in the evap case under the hood..Look on passengers side at the back of the valve cover.

PINPOINT TEST L: EATC HEATER BLOWER MOTOR DOES NOT OPERATE AT LOWER SPEEDS

L1 CHECK BLOWER MOTOR LO SPEED OPERATION

  • Start engine, select MAX A/C and position the blower thumbwheel to LO. The blower motor should operate at low speed.
  • Slowly rotate the blower thumbwheel to HI. The A/C blower motor speed should increase until high blower speed is obtained.

Does the A/C blower speed increase to high speed?

Yes No
PERFORM Pinpoint Test Step A1. GO to L2.

L2 CHECK VOLTAGE BETWEEN BLOWER MOTOR SPEED CONTROL PINS 2 AND 5

  • Turn ignition switch to off.
  • Disconnect the harness connector from the A/C blower motor speed control.
  • Start engine, select MAX A/C and rotate the blower thumbwheel to LO.
  • Check voltage between Pins 1 and 3 of the blower motor speed controller harness connector. Voltage reading should be between 1 and 2 volts.

Is the voltage measurement between 1 and 2 volts?

Yes No
REPLACE the A/C blower motor speed control. RESTORE vehicle. RETEST system. GO to L3.

L3 CHECK VOLTAGE MEASUREMENT

  • Verify the voltage reading obtained in Step L2.

Does the voltage measure zero volts?

Yes No
GO to L4. RETEST. GO to L1.

L4 VOLTAGE CHECK AT EATC PIN 7

  • Start engine, select MAX A/C and rotate the blower thumbwheel to LO.
  • Check voltage between Pin 7 of EATC module and ground. Should indicate 1 to 2 volts.

Is the voltage measurement between 1 and 2 volts?

Yes No
SERVICE Circuit 756 (R/PK) for Town Car or Circuit 752 (Y/R) for Crown Victoria, Grand Marquis between EATC module connector Pin 7 and A/C Pin 2 of A/C blower motor speed controller for connector open. RESTORE vehicle. RETEST system. GO to L5.

L5 ZERO VOLTAGE CHECK AT PIN 7

  • Verify the voltage recorded in Step L4.

Does the voltage between Pin 7 and ground measure zero volts?

Yes No
REPLACE the EATC module. RESTORE vehicle. RETEST system. RETEST. GO to L1 .
